This page serves as the “virtual” home of the GPS Museum of the Quebec Geocaching Association. Over time, we will add the necessary details so that this Museum can become well known.
History
The initial idea came from Misouris (Mario Labelle) during the Eureka Festival in June 2007. During this exhibition, which took place around the Montreal Science Centre (the Science Centre is located on King-Edward Pier in Old Montreal), a few people asked him:
-- “What were GPS devices like in the beginning?”
-- “Do you have any old GPS units?”
Then… the idea took root. It came to life when Mario posted a “classified ad” on the Association’s discussion forum on June 20, 2007.
The very history of GPS is closely tied to geocaching, and having a GPS museum is undoubtedly a real asset for the Association.
Goal
In its early stages, this GPS Museum will be “itinerant”. When possible, it will be brought to different events, such as geocaching meetups, exhibitions, etc.
It could also be taken to various schools to be displayed and to provide information on the history of GPS technology.
This museum will enrich discussions and perspectives for experts, enthusiasts, and newcomers alike.
